A Dedication Stone at Patriot Park

On Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2019, The Garden Club of Yorktown, Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, 9th District in Cooperation with The Town Of Yorktown, held a ceremony to unveil the Blue Star Memorial Marker. The marker takes its name from the Blue Star in the service flag. It is a living memorial “to all those who have served in the National Armed Forces.” The Federated Garden Clubs agreed that it was appropriate to beautify and preserve the country for the men and women who had fought in the wars at the close of World War II.

In attendance were the students of St. Patrick’s School Church Choir, Boy Scout Troop and Pack 173, town officers, American Legion Post 1009, and Garden Club Members.

Lifelong Garden Club member and historian  Monica Doherty (1932-2019) facilitated the relocation of the millstone from a deeply wooded area to this prominent sunny site.

The marker is located at 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown Heights, NY. It can be viewed from the bike trail behind the skateboard park.
